Argentine-American pianist Dr. Marcelo Lian, a sought-after performer, educator, and adjudicator, has won first prizes in several piano competitions as well as scholarships in his native country and in the United States. Dr. Lian has appeared in numerous solo recitals, including at Teatro Colón during the Martha Argerich Festival in 2002, in a recital in California on Vladimir Horowitz’s legendary piano, and in 1998 he made his debut at Carnegie Weill Hall thanks to the support and encouragement of his mentor, Dr. Ana Maria Trenchi Bottazzi. He has also performed as a soloist with several orchestras under the direction of renowned conductors such as Edgardo Cattaruzzi, Mariano Chiacchiarini, Rob Salistean, and Kenneth Meints.

In 2013, Dr. Lian earned a Doctorate in Piano Performance from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln under the guidance of Dr. Paul Barnes. He served as Artist-in-Residence at Linfield College (Oregon) and as a guest artist at Kansas State University, McPherson College (Kansas), Nyack College (New York), New England Conservatory (Massachusetts), Southwest Baptist University (Missouri), Wayland Baptist University (Texas), and other institutions. Owing to his artistic and academic achievements, Dr. Lian obtained U.S. citizenship in March 2021. He is the founder of the new “Pianists of the Americas” festival in Portland, Oregon. He also published an article in Clavier Companion on pedagogical strategies, one of his major professional interests.
