The exhibition PETROF 160 – The Piano as a Technical Masterpiece, created for the 160th anniversary of the founding of PETROF and jointly organized by the National Technical Museum and the PETROF company, closed on July 13, 2025. Originally scheduled to run only until the end of January this year, it was extended by half a year due to exceptional public interest.
An estimated 200,000 visitors came to see the exhibition during its run. In addition to the general public, it was regularly visited by primary schools, for which the museum prepared special accompanying programs.
The exhibition was a joint contribution by NTM and PETROF to the Year of Czech Music, commemorated in 2024. Through a monumental spatial installation, it presented the piano as a technical masterpiece – the result of top-notch craftsmanship, technology, and human precision. Visitors could view iconic PETROF instruments, explore the production process, and learn about the company’s history from 1864 to the present day.
Although the physical exhibition has ended, its story will continue. A digital version in virtual reality is currently being prepared, allowing people from around the world to experience the exhibition, even if they couldn't attend in person.
