Karel Košárek is a much sought-after Czech pianist who appears not only as a soloist, but also with leading orchestras. A graduate of the Musical Faculty of the Prague Academy of Performing Arts and the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, he is a winner of the Smetana Piano Competition and the Corpus Christi Piano Competition, and a prizewinner of the Walter Naumburg Competition in New York. Recitals at previous seasons in New York, Dallas, Palm Beach, Calgary, Tel Aviv, St. Petersburg and Bangkok, as well as concert appearances in Europe and Japan, indicate the scope of his international artistic activity.

Among the orchestras that he has appeared in concert with, or worked with on recording projects, are the Czech Philharmonic, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Czech Radio, the Brno Philharmonic, the PKF-Prague Philharmonia, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the Nagoya Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, and the Klaipėda" Chamber Orchestra. We would also mention his work with conductors such as Jiří Bělohlávek, Christopher Hogwood, Jakub Hrůša, Tomáš Netopil, Zdeněk Mácal and Kaspar Zehnder. Košárek’s solo, chamber and orchestral recordings have been issued by Supraphon, Hyperion, Etcetera, Naxos, Navona records and Radioservis. He has accompanied the singers Magdalena Kožená, Roman Janál, Richard Novák and Soni Červená, and the instrumentalists Pavel Šporcl, Radek Baborák and Jiří Bárta in a number of chamber concerts.
