The silent piano

PETROF Tiché piano
If you are not able to play the piano because you disturb your neighbors or your family who do not understand your artistic needs, solve this problem by buying the instrument equipped with modern digital sound technology also called Silent Piano System.

How does it work?
The stroke of the hammer on a string is simply blocked so the acoustic play is inactivated. There are electronic sensors under the keyboard to scan your key strokes. These sensors then send all the collected information to the sound generator which plays an electronically replicated sound of the instrument you choose. The current list depends on the system´s equipment. It is your choice if play through headphones or speakers. All systems are MIDI compatible, so they can be connected to other MIDI equipment (it could be an electric sound generator or computer).

Current offer:

KORG KS – 32 A – silent piano, presently only available with upright pianos

Function of the system:

When playing the silent piano the feeling is the same as when playing the acoustic piano. The stop strip (a device which blocs the hammer just before it strikes the strings) blocks the stroke on the strings and the sound is generated only electronically into the headphones. It is possible to connect the piano speakers, too. There are optical sensors under the keys which scan the movements of the keys and then generate the sound of the same dynamic in the same way as an acoustic piano.

It is simple and easy to connect the stop strip and to change over to the electronic sound. The main purpose of this device is that you can play the acoustic instrument at night or whenever you need and you do not disturb the people living around you. This system is also useful when teaching many pupils at once in one room. It also provides many more applications thanks to its additional functions, see following.

Professional PCM sound:
  • Piano 1 - (stereo) : realistic grand piano sound
  • Piano 2 – (mono): grand piano sound usable for different musical genres
  • Other sounds – electric silent piano, harpsichord, pipe organ, electric organ and bows
Easy recording function and electronic timekeeper
An additional function of the system, which gives other possibilities to the user
  • The Possibility of recording your own compositions on the instrument, until 14 000 tones are stored in the memory with the possibility of playing back later (for example control and help through education)
  • The possibility of recording left hand or right hand separately. Timing is variable through recording. It can be useful during the rehearsal of compositions.
